The Lady Raiders hosted the Lady Pirates from Avon last Friday during Holiday Break. Avon jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, but Wagner offense would catch fire mid-way through the second to hold a 17-14 lead after the first quarter. Wagner stretched their lead early in the second to 26-14 but then would go on a four and half minute scoring drought and hold a 28-22 lead into the second half. The 3rd quarter was an offensive struggle as the Raiders would edge the Pirates 9-6 and hold a 37-28 advantage. Wagner pushed the lead to as many as 21 points and came away with the win 51-34 over one of their LMVC conference teams. Ashlyn Koupal surpassed the 1,000 point barrier and would lead all scorers with 18 points, 16 boards, 6 blocks and 6 assists. Macy Koupal also reached double figures with 13 points, 5 boards, 6 assists, and 2 steals. Lydia Yost would finish with 8 points and 4 boards. Braxton Nedved would net 6 points and grab 2 boards. Hayden Fischer would add 5 points and 5 boards. Aniyah Fields rounded out the scoring with a point. Wagner would shoot 19-48 for 40% while the Pirates would go 16-57 for 28%. Wagner controled the glass 34-29 and both teams would commit 16 turnovers.
Read moreOur first competition back after Christmas break was the Floyd Farrand Invitational at Sioux Falls Lincoln High School December 30th. The guys competed well and finished 8th as a team, placing four individuals. Both Karstyn Lhotak and Jhett Breen brought home first place finishes while Riley Roberts and Tim Bouza both placed third. It was a good weekend of competition and the guys responded well to the challenge. Our next competition will be Saturday, January 6th in Miller for tournament action.

Read moreThe Wagner Boys Basketball Team took on Ethan on Thursday night at Wagner. The boys started off string leading 14-9 after the first period and 32-22 at the half. Ethan opened up the second half on a 5-0 run and eventually took a 41-36 lead into the fourth quarter. Wagner battled back and cut the lead to 2 points with 1.2 second left. The boys could not tie the game and lost by a final score of 48-45. Joey Cournoyer Jr. had a double double, he scored 12 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Parker Petry added 10 points, Preston McFayden and Carter Cournoyer each scored 8, Carlos Galindo added 5 and Jesse Zephier scored 2. The Raiders outrebounded Ethan 32-27 and shot 41% from the field compared to Ethans 38%. Wagner falls to 2-2 on the season, Ethan remains a perfect 5-0. Wagner will be back in action December 29 against Avon at home.

Wagner was consistent in the first half, putting up 18 in the second quarter also and led 36-13 at the half. The boys defense remained strong holding Menno to 6 points in the third period and 9 points in the fourth winning the game by a final score of 60-28. Preston McFayden led the scoring with 18 points, Parker Petry and Carter Cournoyer dominated the paint, each of them had 12 points, Carter grabbed 9 rebound and blocked 4 shots. Joey Cournoyer Jr. scored 9 points and had 4 steals. Javian Pesicka scored 5 points, Brady Cournoyer had 3 points, and Carlos Galindo scored 1. Wagner outrebounded Menno 40-28. The boys record stands at 2-1.
Read moreThe volleyball season ended for the Wagner Red Raiders the 18th of November, but for senior, Macy Koupal, there was a bit more to be added to her season. Macy was one of three of the Lady Raiders to play in the South Dakota All-Star Volleyball Match which included other seniors from all across the eastern part of South Dakota. Macy was also in the running for the 2023 SD Miss Volleyball Class A title and was named honorable mention as a candidate for the 2023 Midco Sports South Dakota High School Class A Volleyball Player of the Year.
