Read moreThe Lady Raiders took another long road trip to start out the season to take on #5 Class A Sioux Falls Christian. Another state tournament team from a year ago, the Chargers brought back a plethora of players and talent. Wagner stepped up the challenge as Lydia Yost scored off the tip, Braxton Nedved nailed a bomb from beyond the arc, and Macy Koupal slashed and scored to put the Raiders up 7-0. Braxton and Lydia would each nail another 3 to put the Raiders up 13-0 before the Chargers even know what hit them. Wagner would take a commanding lead 22-2 after the first. The Raiders would hold a 38-16 advantage going into the half. SFC would out score Wagner 25-19 but the Raiders would close out the victory 57-41. Wagne would have 3 in double figures with Macy Koupal leading all scorers with 24 points, 6 boards, and 3 assists. Lydia Yost would add 12 points, 9 boards, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Ashlyn Koupal would chip in 11 points, grab a game high 14 rebounds, block 6 shots, and dish out a team high 5 assists. Braxton Nedved would add 6 points, grab 7 boards, and dish out 4 assists. Hayden Fischer would round out the scoring for Wagner with 4 points and dish out 2 assists. Wagner would scorch the nets shooting 65% from the floor hitting 22-34 shots. SFC would go 16-60 for 27%. Wagner would dominate the glass out rebounding the Chargers 36-13. Wagner would commit 21 turnovers compared to 11 from the Chargers. “This was a much anticipated game on my calendar. They are a big school that was a state contender a year ago. Lydia, Braxton and Macy came out ready and made them pay for the double-triple teams that they were bringing before we got touches on the inside. We were all beasts on the boards! Something we took to heart from last game and we did a great job of boxing out. The one area we need to clean up is turnovers. We have left a lot of hidden points in the past few games. Teams are taking 30 more shots a game than us but on the other hand we are shooting double of their percentage. We need to get 10 more shots, make 5 and games can get really out of control. Something we just need to continue to work on. Great job ladies!”
