On Wednesday, March 4th the Wagner Rotary Club met at its usual time for its first meeting of the month. Attendance peaked at sixteen members with some absent due to vacation. South Dakota winters begin to feel quite long by the time March rolls around on the calendar. There were no guests present so Rotary Grace was said, and members ate their meal prepared this week by Valley Pump.

SUFFOCATING DEFENSE CARRIES LADY RAIDERS TO 57–12 CONFERENCE WIN

The Lady Raiders wrapped up LMVC conference play with the ACDC Thunder last Thursday night in girls basketball action. Wagner would dominate from the tip holding a 16-6 lead after the fifirst and then coast to a 57-12 victory. The Raiders wouldn’t shoot the best from the fifield converting on 45% of their fifield goals 23-51 and only 6-11 from the charity stripe. They would hold the Thunder to 6-27 for 22% and they would go 0-4 from the line. Wagner would control the glass out rebounding the Thunder 28-13. Wagner would commit 12 turnovers compared to 23 by the Thunder. Ashlyn Koupal would lead all scorers with 29 points, 7 boards, 6 steals, and 2 assists. Peytyn Wiechmann would add 6 points offff the bench with 4 boards and 2 steals. Hannah Holzbauer and Mila Hopkins would each add 5 points. Hannah would dish out 4 assists and grab 3 boards while Mila would dish out 2 assists. Hayden Knudsen would chip in 4 points grab 5 boards, dish out 4 assists and come away with 3 steals. Braxton Nedved and Clarah Soukup would each contribute 3 points. Braxton would grab 2 boards and come away with 2 steals. Ravyn Medricky would round out the scoring with 2 points, 5 boards and dish out 3 assists. “Defensively we did a really great job. We only allowed 2 offffensive boards, and kept both of their posts scoreless. We did a nice job of running the flfloor tonight and converting. Two weeks of the regular season left and need to continue to finish strong.”

Christine Terry, 52, of Omaha, NE, died Monday January 26, 2026 at Emerald Nursing and Rehab Mercy in Omaha, NE. The family is having a private viewing with cremation to follow. Please join her children in a Celebration of Life on Friday, February 13th from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Hanscom Park Pavilion, Omaha, NE. All are welcome to come and share memories of Christine. A light meal will be provided.

A Celebration of Life for Robert Altenburg, 78, of Pickstown, will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 12 at St. John Lutheran Church in Wagner. Inurnment will be in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Armour at a later date. Visitation with family will be at the church on Thursday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be directed to the South Dakota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame, PO Box 80, Lake Norden, SD 57248. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner is in charge of arrangements.

WAGNER BOYS ROLL PAST ACDC FOR SIXTH STRAIGHT WIN

The Wagner boys varsity basketball team continued iits strong stretch Thursday night, knocking off ACDC 72–46 to earn its sixth straight victory and improve to 13–2 on the season.

Roger Wayne Frankenstein, 80, formerly of Dante, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 in Florence, South Carolina, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Funeral services were Tuesday, February 3 at the American Legion Hall in Wagner. Burial was in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, rural Wagner. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Legion Hall, 107 2nd St SW, Wagner, SD 57380. Peters Funeral Home of Wagner was in charge of arrangements.
