The Avon Junior High Volleyball A team participated in the Great Plains Conference tournament on September 9th. The Great Plains Conference is made up of 12 teams including Burke, Tripp-Delmont/Armour, Scotland, Gayville-Volin, Centerville, Alcester-Hudson, Corsica-Stickney, Andes Central/Dakota Christian, Avon, Colome, Freeman Academy/Marion and Marty. The tournament began with pool play. Avon won all three matches during this part of the tournament.
Read moreMrs. Becky Haenfler, the 5th and 6th grade Language Arts teacher, has been doing a summer reading challenge for several years. Barnes and Nobles offers a summer reading program that requires students to read eight books over the summer and fill out a form to get a free book. In order to go on Mrs. Haenfler’s Barnes and Nobles field trip, students are required to read eight books, complete the Barnes and Nobles form and fill out extra graphic organizers and information that is asked of them.

Read moreCross country has begun, with Ms. Lexi Jurrens as the coach. The cross country team has ten students from grades 6-12. The two captains, John Fathke and Tyler Tjeersdma are hopeful about the season, and have each given a quote.
Read moreThese last few weeks, the Lady Pirates hosted the Parkston Trojans and the AC/DC Thunder to start off their season. They also traveled to Tripp to play the Nighthawks, and Alcester to take on the Cubs. On Tuesday, August 29th the Lady Pirates took on the Trojans, but fell short by just a few points in the fifth set. The Lady Pirates took the victory against AC/DC, beating them in 3 sets. They beat Tripp in four sets. Lastly, the Lady Pirates fought hard to beat the Cubs, but fell short by two points. The Lady Pirates will host Scotland and Wagner next week for homecoming.

The Avon Pirates will compete against the Hitchcock Tulare Patriots on Friday, September 15, 2023 at 7:00 P.M. to conclude homecoming week. In addition to the football game, the Lady Pirates will take on the Wagner Red Raiders Tuesday, September 12, 2023 and the ScotlandHighlandersThursday,September14,2023,bothin Avon. The cross country team will compete September 11, 2023, in Wagner at 2:30 P.M. and they will run in Freeman on September 13, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. Throughout the week, students and staff can show their spirit by participating in the homecoming week dress-up days. The week will start with “Minion Monday,” followed by “Class Colors” on Tuesday, then “Dressing up like a Teacher” on Wednesday, “Superhero Day” on Thursday, “Red/Gold” day on Friday!
