MadisonheldtheVFWYouth Baseball State Championships on July 12th – 14th. The Avon 8U baseball team under the guidance of coaches Nathan Schultz, Dwight Brandt, Kenny Podzimek and Colt Wolf recently played in the state tournament, bringing home a State Championship title. This particular group of 8U boys had been playing together for the past two years. They were a very young team last year, but it gave the boys time to learn how to play together and become a team. Coach Schultz knewthatgoingintothisseason that the team was going to be somethingspecial,andhecould not have been more correct. In addition to winning a state championship title, the team also ended the year with a 11-2 recordintheLMVCLeagueand an overall astonishing season record of 21-2.
Read moreThe Avon swim team has done it again. For the fourth year in a row, the Avon swim team took home the team title from the League Championship Swim Meet in Platte on July 17th and 18th. The team had 57 swimmers compete at the event. Not only did Avon win with the highest team points, but they also had many swimmers come home with high point trophies and other outstanding achievement awards. Coaches for the Avon swimteamincludeheadcoach, Becky Haenfler, and assistant coaches, Macy Voigt, Landon Mudder and Jordyn Voigt.

Read moreThe Southeast Elite took on the Freeman Rebels Wednesday. In Game one, the Elite took a 14-3 win. The Elite scored one run in the first when Sidney Johnson walked, stole second, and then scored on a series of wild pitches. In the second, the Elite scored three runs on a two out rally. Lydia Lane started with a walk. Sydney and Harper reached on errors. Ashley Soukup andWhitleyWolfreachedon an error and walked scoring one. Charlie Paulsen and Whitley followed with singles each scoring a run. In the 3rd Ashley reached on another error and advanced to 3rd where she was driven in on a groundout by Charli. In the 4th, the Elite scored two more on a couple of hits bySydneyandMacyHaynes. The Elite ended up adding 5 more in the fifth on a series of walks and errors. Harper Kracht went the distance, striking out 6 in four innings of work.
