Avon students made poppy posters to be judged by the American-Legion Auxiliary. According to legion-aux.org, the red poppy is a nationally recognized symbol of sacrifice worn by Americans since World War I to honor those who served and died for our country in all wars. It reminds Americans of the sacrifices made by our veterans while protecting our freedoms. Poppy posters are a great way for students in grades 2-12 to get involved in the remembrance and honor of our veterans.
Read moreAt 8:00 am on April 11, the seniors departed from Avon for Maryville, MO with chaperones Kathy Blaha, Connie Gretschmann and Dean DeJong. They headed first to the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo. Getting there around noon, the seniors were able to spend a couple of hours walking around, taking pictures of animals, and eating before getting back on the road. Next stop, they reached their destination in Maryville. Upon arrival, the girls and boys both got cabins to themselves. That night they went out to eat at the A & G restaurant in Maryville. After eating, they headed back to the cabins for a fire and smores.
