Crisman is a Veteran of the Vietnam War. In August of 1974 at the age of 17, after his parents signed off, John joined the Navy and served until August of 1978. Due to his age, he was in reserve status until September of 1974 when he turned 18. He served 6 years in the Navy; four of those were active duty with two years as a reserve drillist, which left him on call by the Navy should he be needed to serve again. John went to boot camp for 12 weeks in San Diego, CA. After boot camp, he attended the Naval Hospital Corps School in San Diego. John trained for four to five months to become a Hospital Corpsman. A hospital corpsman assisted health care professionals who provided care to Navy personnel and their families. As a hospital corpsman, he was loaned out to other military units, with a lot of his time spent with Marine Corp units due to their lack of medical personnel.

Read moreBusinessman, mechanic, and car enthusiast are all words that describe Vernon Giedd. Vernon and Carolyn Giedd owned and operated Vernon’s Repair & Auto Service in Lake Andes for the past 27 years. This past March, he sold the business to JR Kiyukan who renamed the business to K Tire & Oil. Although Vernon no longer owns the repair shop, he still owns the car dealership and has cars available at K Tire & Oil. Derol Hall has worked for Vernon for many years and still assists him with the car dealership and sales. Giedd was very happy to be able to sell the business to Kiyukan because Kiyukan planned to continue to have the business open in Lake Andes. Vernon knew that Lake Andes could not afford to lose any more businesses. Kiyukan had worked for Vernon at his repair shop years previously so Giedd knew that Kiyukan could continue to bring good vehicle repair service to Lake Andes.

Read moreJohnson is a Veteran of the Vietnam War. In 1965, Larry enlisted with the South Dakota National Guard right after college. Larry was a part of the 137th Engineering Battalion, the first National Guard Unit in Wagner. He joined because he thought it was the right thing to do and that the National Guard was a good organization to be a part of. The fact that Larry could still live locally, continue farming and driving trucks while serving his county made the National Guard a good fit for him. Johnson completed his eight weeks of basic training and advanced individual training (AIT) at Fort Englewood, MO. For his AIT, Larry was a 91B, currently known as a 68W, which is a medic. Later in Larry’s National Guard career, he attended Fort Leonard Wood, MO to get another AIT as a truck driver. After completing his first AIT, Johnson returned to Lake Andes to help his dad farm and truck locally. He did this for fifteen years before accepting a full-time position with the Army National Guard unit in Wagner in September of 1984.
