The Lake Andes Baseball teams have been busy with games this summer. Their next game is the first round of 10U Playoffs on Thursday, June 23. Friday, June 24th is the first round of 12U Playoffs, Saturday, June 25 8U will play in the Avon Tourney.

Read moreAvon’s 18U softball team traveled to Scotland on Sunday, June 5 for a doubleheader as part of Scotland Sports Day. In game one Avon unleashed the bats for 11 hits scoring runs in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th innings. Avon was led by Lydia Yost with 3 hits – including a double and 2 RBI. Katie Gretschmann, Sam Brodeen, and Reece Loewe each had 2 hits; with Brodeen and Loewe both having a double and 3 RBI. Emma Yost had a hit and a RBI and Kinley Doom singled in the game. Lydia Yost pitched for Avon, struck out 8, walked 2, and got the win.

Read moreFor nearly 100 years, the Burlington train route meandered through the Black Hills. The train transported people, freight, mail, and livestock from town to town throughout the area. The original construction of the train route began in 1888, and within ten months the route was completed all the way to Edgemont. However, in the mid-1980s the train traffic came to a stop and the railroad was abandoned and ultimately removed.
