Usually, we waited until the city maintenance crew finished plowing the streets because they always deposited the snow in two huge piles: one across from the fire hall and another next to the auditorium. That’s where kids gathered to play King on the Mountain or create an elaborate network of snow tunnels or just have an old-fashioned snowball fight.

Every bill gets a hearing in the state of SD, and it is estimated that we will have at least 500 bills this session. I am going to talk about many health bills this week, although I sit on the Senate Ag and Senate State Affairs committees as well. I will try to rotate the bill discussion to other topics within those committees in the following weeks and please reach out to me on specific bill questions as well, of course.

Read moreAvon Drama Club competed in the Region One Act Play competition Wednesday, January 17th in Mitchell. They secured 2nd place with their performance of “Booby Trap” and advance on to the State One Act Festival which will be held in Brandon Valley February 1st-3rd. They performed a matinee Sunday, January 21st for the community. Those earning a Superior Acting Award from the region competition were Noah Watchorn, Caleb Wallinga and Kate Swier.

She has been a part of the Wagner community since 1985 when she took her first teaching position as an elementary teacher at the Wagner Community School. After having just graduated from the University of South Dakota with an elementary and special education degree, she had heard through friends Pam and Marge Weber that there was an opening at the Wagner school for an elementary teaching position. Lori was hired two weeks before the school year began. What was only supposed to be a one-year teaching job turned into a 34-year career for Lori.

All former South Dakotans, either permanent or seasonal residents are invited to attend with their family. The SD Picnic will be held indoors in the Grace Lutheran Church fellowship hall. Parking and fellowship hall entrance is at the rear of the church building. Please bring a main dish or dessert with enough to share, along with plates and eating utensils for yourself. Serving utensils will be provided, along with soft drinks, water, coffee and tea. There will be no alcoholic beverages served at the SD Picnic.
