In November of 2022, a fire at Wagner’s Good Samaritan Society caused a considerable amount of damage to several non-resident areas of the building. Since the fire, it has been the goal of the Wagner Good Samaritan Society to rebuild and reopen the facility in order to bring back vital services to the Wagner community.

Wagner has been blessed to have two librarians, Anne Podhradsky, Wagner Public Library Director and Nancy Reinbold, Wagner Public Library Assistant in their folds for the last 20 and 10 years respectively. The ladies have done an excellent job over the years of maintaining as well as expanding the selection and services of the library. The Wagner Public Library is a quiet and comfortable place that offers a great space to pass some time; relax and read the paper; stop in to warm up or cool off; and offers a reason and location to connect with others.

Rotarian Jamie Soukup presided over the July 24th meeting in the absence of President Jordan Weber. He practiced before the meeting on ringing the bell, but in the end his ringing was pretty weak. More practice is needed Jamie.

The Lake Andes Public Library had a fun summer of activities held for local children. As the summer reading program is coming to a close, here is a recap of some of those fun activities that Librarian, Mary Jo Parker, with the help of her programming assistants, Marlene Janis, Madelyn Janis, Madeline Derry and Katelyn Dvorak engaged the children of Lake Andes with. The theme for this summer’s reading program was Adventure Begins at Your Library and that is exactly what Mary Jo planned for the children that attended, lots of library adventures. Some of the fun projects that the library offered this summer included building a fairy house and garden, string art projects, diamond art, the Virtual 2024 Dam 5K and perler bead creations. One of the final projects before the end of summer reading program incentive trip to Yankton is a Build A Bear project for those that attended the summer programing. Congratulations to all those that participated and enjoyed time at the Lake Andes Public Library this summer.
