The Avon School District will welcome a new K- 5th grade special education teacher for the 2024-2025 school year, Ashley Cihak. Ashley has been teaching for the past 14 years. Her entire teaching career until this year has been with the Wagner Community School District. Six of her last 14 years were in Elementary Special Education, with the last eight years teaching second grade.
Read moreWith the beginning of school, Moms in Prayer will be starting up again. This is a Christ centered prayer ministry made up of Moms and other interested ladies desiring to pray for the students and the school. The organization was started over 30 years ago by Fern Nichols. She, along with one other lady met to pray for their children as they started school. That small beginning has grown into an International Organization that has praying groups in all 50 states and over 120 countries.

Weber is settling into his role as President and already a month has passed in our new Rotary year. Read moreAfter Fire Chief, Rod Bergin, applied for a grant from the Gary Sinise Foundation, the foundation awarded the Lake Andes Volunteer Fire Department a grant for $65,114.03 in March of 2023. The Lake Andes Fire Department used the grant money to purchase a new brush fire rig in order for the department to have a more reliable unit to better serve the fire district. The pickup came from Iverson Chrysler of Michell and the truck modifications were done by Meyerinks Farm Service and B & L Communications both of Platte.

Treyvan who ended up placing 11th at the 2024 National High School Rodeo in the steer wrestling event. Talsma has been competing in rodeos since he was in junior high when he father first got him startedinthesteerwrestling event. He instantly became interested in competing in steer wrestling because of how well his father did at the event and Ty’s passion for it. Treyvan competes in high school rodeos, 4-H rodeo and amateur rodeos. The events that Treyvan is involved in are team roping, steer wrestling and tie down roping. When asked if he had a favorite, Treyvan said he did not as he enjoys competing in each of the three events.

Mike first became a volunteer firefighter in the Black Hillsduringhishighschool years. After moving to the Avon area, he soon realized that he missed being a part of the brotherhood that a firedepartmentprovidesas well as fighting fires.
