This year’s AC/DC boys’ basketball team is coached by Head Coach Gordon Hooks, who is assisted by his son Brevan Hooks. This is Gordon’s 17th year coaching and Brevan’s fourth. Nine seniors lead this year’s team and include Tate Elk Soldier, Hunter Loeffler, Sabas DeHaan, AJ Johnson, Garth Maas, Ty Archambeau, Ryder Niewenhuis, Ethan Aungie and Kashton Garcia. Junior team members are Kashton Garcia, Takota Medicine Horn and Isaiah Milk. Jamian Medicine Horn and Edward Ulrich are the team’s sophomore members. Up and coming freshmen team members include Jack Backes and Israel Brown.

This is because Avon has a new Chief of Police, Edwin Young Sr. Young began his work with the Avon Police Department on November 25. Young has been in the law enforcement field for the past 28 years, starting in 1996. Young was born and raised in Rosebud. During the latter part of his teenage years, his family moved to Nevada. Young graduated from high school in Owyhee, NV in 1992. He then joined the United States Army and was stationed at both Ft. Eustis and Ft. Story, VA until he was honorably discharged in 1995.

Coach Kocer has taken point when it comes to the girls’ wrestling team. This year’s team has two seniors Peyton Hellmann and Ashley Tolsma. Peyton is a four-time state champion with a 42-0 record last season and a career record of 146-9. Peyton is ranked number four nationally by USA Wrestling forHighSchoolgirls’wrestlers in the 135-pound weight class. Ashleybroughthome8thplace at last year’s state tournament and finished her season with a record of 18-20. Juniors on the BHSA’s girls wrestling team are Britney Rueb and Hope Kemnitz. Britney is a threetime state champion, one time state runner-up, finished last year’sseasonwitha28-2record andhasacurrentcareerrecord of 121-9. Britney is ranked number 28 by USA Wrestling in the National Rankings for High School girl wrestlers in her weight class of 130 pounds. Hope Kemnitz qualified for last season’s state tournament and ended the season with a 11-16 record. Hadlee Kracht and Jasmine Rueles-Hertz are sophomores on the team. Hadlee placed 8th at the state tournament last season and ended her season with a 31-17 record. Baily Kemnitz is a freshman team member. The team also has two seventh graders Sydney Johnson and Harper Kracht.
