This year AHS had four CrossCountrystatequalifiers: Zander Fathke, Rance Kuhlman, Jack Fathke, and senior John Fathke. They prepared for the competition by getting a lot of sleep, letting loose, stretching, drinking a lot of water, eating good meals, and most importantly, practicing. They were all very excited to have the opportunity to compete at state. Coach Jurrens, along with the boys’ parents, were there to cheer them on. Some of the strategies they usedwere:keepingtheirheads down, staying at an even and steadypacewhengoingup-hill, and saving their energy until the end. If an underclassman wanted to join XC, the athletes suggest working hard, never givingup,andtryingtheirbest.
Read moreThe Creative English class started their Monday very early this past week, leaving the parking lot at 5:15 a.m. This group of kids, chaperoned by Voni Hubbell, their Creative English teacher, took a van to the SDSU College Campus in Brookings, South Dakota, for the2024HighschoolPressConvention. There, they learned about many press-related skills, ranging from Sports Photography, to getting a job. Overall, the trip was a success, enlightening the students in various journalistic topics re-lated to their everyday life, like the ethicality of AI or the most effective way to attract online readers to a social media post.

Some hobbies Kaeli enjoys are reading, talking, and playing sports. Her favorite subject is math because she enjoys numbers and how there's always a reason for something. A quote Kaeli lives by is, “Don’t take life too seriously; you’ll never get out of it alive.” Kaeli’s biggest role model in her life is her dad. He taught her hard work and how to do most of the things she knows how to do now. Some advice she has for underclassmen is to not be afraid to try something harder or outsideofyourcomfortzone. The accomplishment Kaeli is most proud of during her time at AHS is making it to state track for the last three years. Kaeli is interested in pursuing a career in athletic training or physical therapy afterhighschool.Herfavorite memories during her time at AHS are a combination of funnyconversationsinhistory, school trips, and sporting events.Whenaskedwhatshe would miss most about AHS, Kaeli answered: her friends andalloftherandomconversations she has had.
