MILDRED ROTH
Mildred Jean Roth, the youngest child of John J. and Caroline (Binder) Kocmich was born on January 14, 1928 at rural Dante. She passed away on Sunday, November 28 at the Angelhaus Assisted Living Center in Yankton.
Mildred attended Lone Tree #1 through the eighth grade and graduated from Avon High School in 1945. She then attended Yankton College for one year. Mildred taught in the rural schools of Charles Mix and Bon Homme counties for nine years.
Mildred was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Church of Dante. In 1948 she became a member of the Emmaus Lutheran Church in Tripp and in 2005 transferred her membership to the Zion Lutheran Church in Avon.
Mildred married Albert Roth on June 24, 1947 in Tripp. They farmed north of Avon until 1992 when they moved into Avon. After moving to Avon she worked part time with the Dakota Senior Meals program and also part time at Mensch’s Greenhouse.
Mildred and Albert were blessed with one son, Roger and three grandchildren.
Mildred enjoyed working with flowers, playing cards and visiting with family and friends. She loved spending time with her three grandchildren and especially enjoyed attending their activities when she was able. Mildred also belonged to a flower club and a senior citizen club.
Mildred is survived by her son Roger Lee and wife Brenda of Avon; grandchildren: Rodney of Colorado, Chance of Sioux Falls and Destinee (Caleb Van Gerpen) of Sioux Falls, and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Albert in 2001; three brothers: Edward J. Kocmich, John C. Kocmich and Felix (in infancy); and five sisters: Adeline Garcia, Laura Streeter, Alvina Krcil, Harriett Pudwill, and Dorothy Pudwill.
Funeral services were 2 p.m., Thursday, December 2 at Zion Lutheran Church in Avon. Burial was in the Grace Hill Cemetery in Tripp. Peters Funeral Chapel in Avon was in charge of arrangements.
