Funeral services for Kenneth Yule, 90, of Custer, formerly of Springfield, will be held Wednesday, August 21 at 2 p.m. at the United Church of Christ in Springfield. Burial will be in the Springfield Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be at the church, Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. Peters Funeral Chapel of Springfield is in charge of arrangements. Kenneth William Yule was born August 5, 1934 to Isaac and Clara (Oelrich) Yule in Springfield. Ken died August 15, 2024 at Custer Care and Rehab Center in Custer. He graduated from Springfield High School. Ken served in the US Army from 1954 to 1957. During his time in the Army, he became a SSgt and was stationed in Germany with 9th Signal Comp-9th Infantry Division as a radio operator. Ken married LaVonne Kutilek in Tabor November 26, 1957. Together they had four children: Jerry, Sandy, Sue and Sharon. As a family, they moved and traveled often. In 1990, Ken and LaVonne moved to Springfield until 2020, when he and LaVonne moved to Custer. Ken was a man of many trades. His work took him to many places during his career, mainly in construction work. Ken loved breaking and training horses. He enjoyed trucking and traveled to 48 of the 50 states. Ken hobbies included whittling wood, playing his harmonica along with many other instruments, spending time with his whole world-Lavonne, and with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Ken was a member of the American Legion in Springfield and to the VFW Post in Custer. He was also a member of the UCC church in Springfield. Thankful for having shared his life are his wife LaVonne; children: Jerry (Wanda) Yule of Edgemont, Sandy (Tim) Einrem of Springfield, Sue Hemiller (Jake Peterson) of Springfield, and Sharon (Gerard) Cuka of Belle Fourche; 11 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren; and sister Beverly Nagel of Wisner, NE. Ken was preceded in death by his grandson Matt Yule; son-in-law Paul Hemiller; parents; sisters Elsie Williams and Betty Wynia; and brother Wally Yule.
