The Lady Raiders hosted the O’Neill Eagles last Tuesday night in girls basketball action. Wagner would jump out to an early 7-0 lead and hold a 21-15 edge after the first quarter. The Raiders would continue to pour in the points in the second quarter out scoring the Eagles 25-13 and hold a 4628 advantage going into half. Wagner’s defense would step up and only allow the Eagles to score 16 points in the second half and finish the game with a 66-44 victory. Ashlyn Koupal would lead all scorers with 27 points, grab 9 boards and dish out 4 assists. Macy Koupal would net 19 points, 6 boards and dish out 4 assists. Lydia Yost would finish with 9 points, 4 boards, 3 steals, and 2 assists. Braxton Nedved would finish with 5 points, 5 boards, and 3 assists. Hayden Fischer would also tally 5 points, 2 boards and 2 assists. Rico Fischer would round out the scoring with 1 point. Wagner would shoot 26 for 50 for 54% while holding the Eagle’s to 15-54 for 27%. Wagner would out rebound O’Neill 27-25. The Raiders would commit 6 turnovers compared to 11 from O’Neill. “We did a great job of taking care of the basketball in the halfcourt and then executing out of a lot of sets. Defensively we really got after it in the second half. We gave up 10 offensive boards for the game and only got 4 ourselves. We need to do a better job of limiting teams to 1 shot attempt and playing complete games.”

The boys tied the game late 49-49 but never got a lead and lost 56-53. Carter Cournoyer had his second straight double double scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Jesse Zephier added 11 points and had 4 assists. Preston McFayden added 9 points and had 6 rebounds. Parker Petry scored 6 points, Joey Cournoyer Jr. scored 5 points and had 6 rebounds, Javian Pesicka scored 3 points on an fashioned 3 point play and Brady Cournoyer chipped in 2 points. Wagner out rebounded Parkston 36-22 but committed 10 more turnovers which proved to be the difference in the game.

The boys expanded their lead to as much as 10 in the fourth quarter and held on to win the game 63-57. Parker Petry had a big night with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Carter Cournoyer had his third consecutive double double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Joey Cournoyer scored 8 points, had 9 rebounds, and 8 assists. Brady Cournoyold er went a perfect 4 for 4 from the field and scored 8 points, he also grabbed 4 rebounds. Preston McFayden and Carlos Galindo each scored 6 points, and Jesse Zephier scored 3 points and had 3 assists. The boys record is now 5-4, they travel to Burke on Thursday .

Going into this dual, the wrestlers had limited practices, and it was a little concerning just due to the fact there was not much time to prepare. At the end of the day the wrestlers took care of business 42-23. As a team they are wrestling well and understandthateachtimethey step on the mat they need to do their job which is huge if this team wants to make the state dual tournament.
Read moreThe Andes Central National Honor Society (NHS) is now offering the homework room to all high school students on Wednesday afternoons from 2:45 p.m. until 4 p.m. The homework room will be staffed by two NHS members with members rotating and each taking a turn. The homework room has been operating for a couple of weeks now and would love to have more students utilize the opportunity. They are hoping to eventually make it possible to have teachers in the homework room in order to better serve AC’s students.
