On Saturday, February 18, the Wagner 8th grade basketball team travelled to Parkston to play in the Parkston Tournament. The Raiders were matched up with Parkston for their first game. It was an exciting back-and-forth first half as both teams shot the ball well and played an up-tempo game. It was a completely different game from the previous night as the Raiders trailed by only 4 at the half by a score of 32-28. The Raiders kept it under 10 for most of the second half, but just couldn’t get over the hump. In the last minute and a half, Parkston was able to pull away for a 59-41 victory. The game was much closer than the final score indicates though. Leading scorers for the Raiders were Jesse Zephier with 19, Carolos Galindo with 13, Javian Pesicka with 5 and Benny Greger with 4.

In the 7th grade game, the Raiders were without a couple of their regular starters and it showed as they struggled offensively for most of the game. After falling behind in the first quarter, the Raiders settled down some in the 2nd and managed to keep the game close at half as they trailed 16-9. Baskets were hard to come by in the second half as they Raiders just couldn’t get anything to fall. The Trojans were able to pull away in the second half to defeat the Raiders by a score of 37-11. The loss dropped the Raiders record to 9-5 on the season. Leading scorers were Cruise Koupal with 7 and Jacob Kotab and Beau Otte each added 2.

The Avon Lady Pirates traveled to Corsica Tuesday, February 21st for Region play against Corsica/Stickney. The girls played a great game but suffered the tough loss 30-42 to end their season.
