Vice President Elect, Jordan Weber rang the bell for our July 12th meeting. President Brunsing was away on business. Rotarian/ Pastor Bill Heermann gave thanks for the beautiful day and asked all members to keep the Francis Doom family in their prayers. After the prayer he thanked all members for the sympathy card he received after the death of his mother.

Read moreThe Avon Public Library held their third session of the Summer Reading Program this past Monday. Fifty-five children were in attendance as wellasparents,caretakers,and volunteers.Thefocusoftheday was on cows. Hayden Talsma readabookentitled,“IamCow, Hear Me Roar,” written by Jill Esbaum.Mrs.Kuhlmanwould be pleased to know that one of her 1st graders recognized it to be a rhyming book! Go Brynn! Since cows produce milk, the snack included milk products. Participants were invited to indulgeincheeseandcrackers, milk,andanotherbyproductof cows…..cow pies! Don’t worry, they were not gathered from nearby pastures, they were actuallyno-bakecookiesmade in the kitchens of the board members. The children made cow crafts from paper plates and some of the older children chose to make origami corner bookmarks resembling cows or chickens. Prize drawings resulted in $30 gift cards from Bomgaars for Sonny Lund, Avery Beeson,andMilaynaKrcil. Five other children were able to chose from a treasure chest of prizes. As usual, students turned in the titles of the books they read for our reading contest, andtherewasasteadyline of books for Twila to check out. Thank you to businesses that have supported our program this year, and in the past. We are thrilled at the number of parents and caretakers who bring the children in and show them the importance of literacy. A huge shout out goes to HaydenTalsma,HensleyTalsma, and Hoyt Brandt for being willing to lend a helping hand whenever needed. The library board members appreciate you all tremendously! We will meet for our final Session on July 24th at 1:30pm. Our craft and snack will focus on pigs! We may even have a surprise visitor! A date set for a finale includingafamilymovienight at Tolsma’s Cove park on Main Streetisalsointheworks.Stay tuned for more information.
