MARCELLA KIRCHHEVEL
Marcella Josephine Kirchhevel, 100, went to her heavenly home Thursday, August 10 at Sanford Health Vermillion Care Center. Funeral service will be Wednesday, August 16 at 10:30 a.m., with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m., at First Lutheran Church in Lake Andes. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Lake Andes.
Marcella was born June 8, 1923 to Joseph and Rose (Kotalik) Matuska in Tabor. She attended country school near Tabor and Yankton High School. She was united in marriage to Leon Kirchhevel on October 27, 1952 in Lake Andes. The couple lived on an acreage north of Lake Andes where Marcella raised chickens, ducks and geese. She loved spending time with her family and was well known for her embroidery, her garden and baking, especially Kolaches during Czech Days in Tabor. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Lake Andes, an associate member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermillion and an active member of the Senior Center in Vermillion. She enjoyed listening to country music and enjoyed babysitting for some of the local children.
Grateful for having shared her life are her three children: Gloria (Keith) Brooks of Vermillion; Myron Kirchhevel of Mitchell and Russell Kirchhevel of Yankton; eight grandchildren: Jurnee Kirchhevel, Randy (Roxanne) Kirchhevel, Brandon Kirchhevel, Coleen Kirchhevel, Morgan Brooks, Adam (Teresa) Brooks, Patrick (Sarah) Brooks, and Jon (Amber) Brooks; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Kathleen Brey and Karin Kirchhevel; a brother-in-law, Lawrence Kirchhevel; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leon; six brothers, Emil, Dean, Willard, Joe, Jim and Leonard; and three sisters, Viola, twin sister, Margaret and Norma.
