JANIS L. HASZ
Janis L. Hasz, 89, of Aberdeen, died Tuesday, June 27, at Prairie Heights HealthCare, Aberdeen. The funeral service was Monday, July 3, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, with Pastor Mike Waldrop officiating. Burial was at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Wessington Springs. Janis Lu Trantina was born May 26, 1934, to Charles and Tillie (Schultz) Trantina at Dante. The family moved to Wagner, where Janis graduated from high school. Janis attended Yankton Community College and obtained her teaching certification and taught 4th grade in Wessington Springs. Janis married Dihl Hasz in Wagner on June 10, 1956.
Dihl and Janis had three children, Lauri and Leland (twins) and 15 months later LuAnn.
In 1964, the family moved from Wessington Springs to Aberdeen. After moving to Aberdeen, Janis worked for Dakota Farmer, Owen Angels, Herbergers, Feinsteins, Control Data (20 years) and 3M.
Janis was an active member of First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women’s Circle. Her husband Dihl passed away in 1985. She was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. She also loved watching NSU and SDSU sports. Janis was her children’s, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s biggest cheerleader at sporting events and school programs. She enjoyed years of being a part of the Foster Grandparents organization for Roncalli. She loved to read and enjoyed game night with her friends and residents at the Carlyle Apartments.
Janis was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and went through treatment with grace. She also broke her femur and went through extensive rehab to regain her mobility.
Grateful for having shared Janis’ life are her children: Lauri Hasz, Leland (Terri) Hasz, and LuAnn (Vinnie) Grimaldi; grandchildren: Amy (Josh) Veal and Tyler Hasz; great-grandchildren: Caitlyn Veal, Mason Veal, Peyton Veal, and Logan Hasz.
