Jacob Allen Wages was born May 21, 1997 in Mitchell, SD. He is the son of Christa (Wages) and Dean DeJong and Keith Erickson. He died Saturday, March 26 at his home in Mitchell.

Jake graduated from Avon High School in 2016. He attended the University of South Dakota and moved to Mitchell. He lived and worked in Mitchell until his passing.

Jake was a very gentle, kind, well natured person who had a great laugh. He was a very avid, passionate gamer. Jake enjoyed playing high school football and was involved in archery, choir, All-State Choir, drama, Avon Science Fair and A-Club while in high school. While growing up, Jake worked as a lifeguard at the Springfield City Pool and also enjoyed spending time with family at Grandma and Grandpa DeJong’s farm.

Thankful for having shared his life are his parents, Christa (Dean) DeJong of Avon and Keith Erickson of Pierre; two brothers: Jason (Emily Cap) DeJong of Brookings and Riley DeJong of Avon; sister Rachael DeJong of Avon; grandparents: Jim Borgstadt of Mitchell and Harlan (Fran) DeJong of Springfield; and several aunts, uncles and many cousins.

Jake was preceded in death by his grandparents: Joan Borgstadt, and Mary and Melvin Erickson; great grandparents, Herb and Jessie DeJong; and cousins: Jordan and Dylan Klich.

A public memorial visitation will be held at Peters Funeral Home in Wagner on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. A private Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, April 1 at Peters Funeral Home in Wagner. Burial is in the ZCBJ Cemetery, rural Wagner.
