WAGNER TAKES CARE OF CUBS




The Wagner Red Raiders hosted the Chamberlain Cubs on Tuesday, August 30th and they were able to get the W at all three levels. The C team won 2-0, the JV had a minor hiccup in set one, but was able to take the match 2-1, and the varsity team took care of the Cubs with a 3-0 win.
In the varsity match, Wagner’s outside hitters rallied for double digit kills in the 25-10, 25-9, 25-14 win, Abby Brunsing (17), and Faith Tyler (10). Two more Red Raiders put away 5 kills apiece, Maesa Dvorak and Lizzie Tyler. Senior libero, Kirstyn Roth, led the defense with 12 digs, while Brunsing and Faith Tyler picked up 7 and 6 respectively. Paige Petry led the defense at the net with 3 blocks and Dvorak stuffed 2 more. Brunsing was perfect from the service line, scoring 18 points, with 7 aces. Faith Tyler served 5 aces, and Lizzie Tyler added 4 more. Emilea Cimpl ended the evening with 21 assists, and Lizzie Tyler contributed 9 in the win.
Although the JV team took a while to warm up in set one, losing 23-25, it was all Wagner taking the next two sets, 25-13, 15-7. Three players slammed down 4 kills each, Bella LeBeaux, Dani Twiss, and Avari Bruguier. Libero, Callie Frei picked 6 digs, while Macy Koupal scrapped for another 5. Twiss led all servers with 9 aces, and Bruguiertallied 5more. Koupaldishedout 11 assists to her front row hitters.
The C squad had set scores of 25-18, 25-17 with Sydney Cournoyer and Shona Kocer leading offensively with 3 kills apiece. It was even the rest of the way with Madi Knebel, Bruguier, Kya Kjeldgaard, and Jessica Kocer putting down 2 kills each. Knebel and Olivia Breen were even with digs with 6 apiece. Koupal served 5 aces and distributed 11 assists.
