Tyrone Terry Peters was born September 29, 1949 in Wagner to Elmer and Velda (Permann) Peters. He died Wednesday, January 29, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.

Tyrone graduated from Wagner High School in 1967. He attended one year of college at the University of South Dakota. He joined the US Navy and served during the Vietnam Era from 1969 to 1975. He then served in the Wagner National Guard unit for several years.

On July 27, 1974, Tyrone and Mariana were married in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico at the U.S. Naval Chapel Sabana Seca. After his military service he returned to Wagner with his wife and new family to farm and run a gravel pit. He began his career working for the US Army Corps of Engineers as a purchasing agent from 1986 to 1990. He became an Engineering Equipment Operator in 1990 and became the Maintenance Foreman for 1995 to 2003. He was promoted to Engineering Equipment Operator Leader and served in that role from 2003 until he retired on December 31, 2015.

Tyrone will be remembered for his enjoyment of spending time with family, playing cards, golfing, watching Westerns and Fox News. He was a very active member of St. John Lutheran Church and held various offices there. He was a member of the American Legion, the Wagner Saddle Club, Randall Hills Country Club and was a founding member of the Fort Randall Credit Union.

Thankful for having shared his life are his children: Mary Peters, Michelle (Mike) Robertson of Wagner, Amy (Mike) Blaha of Dante, Mathew Peters of Wagner and Thomas (Audrey) Peters of New Castle, CO; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters: Kathy Peters of Moorcroft, WY and Vicky (Dennis) Kuhlman of Wagner; sister-in-law Rosemary Peters of Wagner; brotherin- law Pablo Acosta of Puerto Rico; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Tyrone was preceded in death by his wife Mariana on April 27, 2024; parents, son Robert Peters; grandsons Ty Robertson and Braxton Kreber; granddaughters: Ella and McKenna Robertson and Shannon Groeneweg; brother Stanley Peters; and sisters-in-law: Lila and Olympia.
