THEODORE BULTSMA
Theodore Alvin “Ted” Bultsma, 84, of Platte, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at Platte Health Center Avera. Funeral Services were Monday, December 9 at the Christian Reformed Church in Platte. A Committal Service followed at Platte City Cemetery. Mount Funeral Home of Platte is assisted with arrangements.
Theodore Alvin Bultsma was born on June 14, 1935 to Henry T. and Jessie T. (Bult) Bultsma at their home in Platte. He attended country schools and was united in marriage to Carol Ann Hoving on June 15, 1956 in Chicago, IL at the Roseland Christian Reformed Church parsonage. Ted began his lifelong career as a farmer and rancher, working with his Dad. He was also a truck driver, owning and operating Bultsma Truck Line.
Ted was a member of the Platte Christian Reformed Church, served on the Board and as a driver for the Platte Ambulance Service, belonged to the Platte Horseman Club, participated in bowling league, was a 4-H Leader and a member as well as Past President, of the South Dakota Trucking Association.
Horseback riding and caring for his cattle were two of Ted’s passions. He will be fondly remembered for the love he showed to all of his family and many friends. Ted considered his family to be his greatest achievement.
Grateful for having shared in Ted’s life: his wife of over 63 years, Carol Bultsma of Platte; seven children: David (Brenda) Bultsma of Platte, Cheryl Reed of Platte, Beverly Antonsen of Platte, Janice Urban of Pukwana, Barbara (Todd) Powell of Chamberlain, William (Chandel) Bultsma of Vermillion and Patricia (Bill) Frei of Wagner; 19 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren: Josh (Julie) Bultsma – Coy, Rory, Riata and Tayten, Jarrod (Jacki) Bultsma – Dawson, Hayden and Austen, Bridget (Jared) Bender – Hayes, Jeri (Isaac) Dahlman – Kurt and Wade, Jody (Steve) Beeson – Sophie, Kip and Teddy, Jill Antonsen, Hope Antonsen, Michael (Nichole) Urban – Anthony and Allison, Ryan (Samantha) Urban – Trace, Huntley and Rhett, Tara (Kyle) Wieczorek – Reagan, Emma and Carter, Brooklynn (Ross) Kieffer – Savanna, Rebecca (Matt) Herman, Elizabeth (Matt) Luczak, Nathan Powell, Collin Powell, Thomas Powell, Jasmine (Ryan) Stewart – Eliot and Alice, Colton Frei, and Callie Frei; three brothers; four sisters; Carol’s sister; along with many nieces and nephews.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Jessie Bultsma; an infant twin son, Daniel; a grandson, Logan Theodore Frei; a granddaughter, Janel Reed; and two sons-in-law: Raymond Urban and Kevin Antonsen.
