THELMA ZACHARIASEN
Services were held for Thelma Zachariasen (Fischer) on Friday, December 7 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Arrangements were by Walter Funeral Home of Freeman.
Thelma was born October 3, 1929 to Lewis and Minnie (Kuhlman) Fischer at Wagner. They moved to Lake Andes when Thelma was eight. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Lake Andes High School. After graduation Thelma attended Southern State Normal School and subsequently taught school for one year.
Thelma married Martin Zachariasen June 3, 1948 at Lake Andes. Martin and Thelma were married for 48 years and were blessed with six children; Vickie, Craig, Neil, LeAnn, Ward and Tena. The family moved to Lakewood, Colorado in 1970 where Martin worked construction and Thelma worked at Skaggs Drug and as a care giver for the elderly. She loved caring for her clients because she always wanted to be a nurse. Martin died February 27, 1996 and Thelma moved to Freeman in 2010.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Freeman. She enjoyed activities at the Freeman Senior Center, was always up for a game of Rummikub with her friends and watching the Denver Broncos. Grateful in having shared her life are her children: Craig (Linda) of Lincoln NE; Neil (Sherri) of Freeman; LeAnn (Tim) Smith of Green River WY; and Tena of Golden CO; nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and one brother, Dean (Sylvia) Fischer of Grand Junction CO and numerous nieces and nephews.
Thelma was preceded in death by husband Martin, son Ward, daughter Vickie, parents, brother Wilbert Fischer and sister Eunice Bradley.
