STUDENTS ENJOY FINAL WEEKS OF SUMMER SCHOOL

We have had two busy weeks during summer programming at Wagner Community School. Our third week was spent with Darwin Wolf. Darwin taught the students to sculpt while also giving them small history lessons along the way. The students had the opportunity to paint their sculptures and display them for people to see.

Judy Ishmael joined us on Monday, July 23rd. She made tracks with the students and educated them about animal skulls and furs. On Monday, July 30th, Jason Von Eschen and other local fireman spent the day giving tours to our students at the fire station. They spent part of the time doing team building and relays.

Our final week of summer programming was spent with Sheltered Reality. Sheltered Reality is a drum group that helps students to build self esteem so that they can be better individuals and succeed in life. The students put on a performance on Friday at noon to show off everything that they learned. This was Sheltered Reality’s fifth year coming to do a camp with our summer programming students. They have also helped us start our own drumming group that has about ten members. We meet monthly and the students have had the opportunity to be part of shows at other schools. Some of our members will also be drumming with Sheltered Reality at Yankton Riverboat days on Saturday, August 18th in the park.
