PAUL WENTLAND
Paul Arthur Wentland, Age 92 of Northglenn, Colorado passed away on Tuesday April 12, 2022. There will be a gathering of family and friends to celebrate Paul's life at Peters Funeral Home in Wagner on Saturday, May 21, between the hours 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. There will be a simple graveside committal ceremony with military honors to follow at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Wagner.
Paul was born July 3, 1929 in Wagner to Hannah Peterson and Paul Wentland Sr. He was fourth oldest of seven brothers and four sisters. He grew up on a farm near Wagner in Charles Mix County and attended school there.
Paul married Betty LaDonna Bergin on October 23, 1950 and soon after was drafted into a four year tour with the U.S. Army on September 20, 1951. There he served in Korea as an M.P.
After Paul was discharged from the army he worked on the construction of the Gavensport Dam on the Missouri River and spent two years with The Strategic Air Command Headquarters in Grand Fork, North Dakota. Then he joined the local #9 union working with sheet metal until he retired in 1984. He also had several hobbies which included fishing, camping, traveling, playing cards and working on puzzles when he wasn't building or remodeling his homes.
Paul is survived by brothers: Alvin Wentland, Robert Wentland, Glen Wentland and Larry Wentland; sisters: Rosemary Bucholz and Norma Van Zee. children: Susan (Bob) Goodwin, Richard (Theresa) Wentland, and Janet Simmons; grandchildren: Phillip, Robert, Alexis, Justen, Christine and Corey; great-grandchildren: Rhiannon, Codi, Nathan, Crissa, Emma, Derek and Abagail.
Paul was preceded in death by his beloved wife Betty, his parents, Paul Sr and Hannah Wentland; sisters: Mavis Hurmalka and Alice Kolecka; brothers: Harold, George and Walter Wentland.
Paul lived and enjoyed every day of his adult life with his beloved wife Betty LaDonna. He spoke often of how lucky he was to have shared his life with her. Now they will lay side by side each other.
