NORMAN WOODS
Funeral Mass for Norman T. Woods, 96, of Wagner, was Saturday, August 3 at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Wagner. Burial was in the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery with military honors. Peters Funeral Home of Wagner was in charge of arrangements.
Norman T. Woods was born in Wagner on February 17, 1928, the son of Orville and Edna (Dunsmore) Woods. He died Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at the Lake Andes Healthcare Center.
Norman attended country school through the 8th grade and began working on the farm with his dad. In 1951, he joined the US Army and served in Germany during the Korean War. Once he returned in 1953, he went back to the farm.
Norman married Joan (Efta) Woods on September 20, 1954 in Wagner. Together they farmed and raised their family of 12 kids southwest of Wagner until they retired and moved into Wagner in April of 1996.
Norman was a member of the St. John’s Catholic Church and the VFW.
Norman enjoyed visiting with family and friends, playing cards and Rummikub, car trips, reading and watching westerns. Hee-Haw, Bonanza, and Archie Bunker were some of his favorites. He will be remembered for his work ethic, unmatched wit, and one- liners.
Thankful for having shared his life are 11 children: Terri (Alvin) Rezac of Dante, Cheryl (Harvey) Smith of Mt. Vernon, Doug (Mitsy) Woods of Lake Andes, Tammy (Mike) Swanson of Lake Andes, Julie (Jerald) Dennis of Bristow, NE, Frank (Joanne) Woods of Piedmont, Stephenie (Roger) Cuka of Wagner, Steve Woods of Wagner, Val Fredrich of Mitchell, Paula (Rick) Brandner of Mitchell, and Dana Woods of Wagner; 33 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; four sisters: LaVonne Hastings, Shirley Carda, Karen (Leonard) Dvorak, and Sandy Taggart and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Norman was preceded in death by his wife Joan; son David Woods; granddaughter Sara Swanson; parents; five brothers and six sisters.
