NANCI TIMMINS

Nanci Lee Timmins of Mitchell passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls on September 17. Funeral services were Saturday, September 25 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Will Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery.

Nanci Lee Brodeen Timmins was born on April 17, 1954 in Sioux City, Iowa to Clair and Jocelyn Brodeen. The family moved to Avon when she was a small child and she attended Avon Schools, graduating from Avon High School in 1972. Nanci graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of South Dakota in 1976. She went on to earn an Associate degree in Radiologic Technology from Dakota Wesleyan University.

Nanci and Buck Timmins were united in marriage on May 29, 1976 at the First Presbyterian Church in Avon. They celebrated 44 years of marriage in 2020. They made their first home in Avon, where Buck was a teacher, and moved to Mitchell in 1978, where they raised their two boys, Willie and Nick.

Nanci was a loving mother, wife and grandmother to her family. She was devoted to her boys and supported them in all their activities and interests. She was also a supportive “coach wife”, attending many track meets, basketball, volleyball and football games with her husband Buck. She especially loved attending Dakota Wesleyan basketball games, sitting on the stage with fellow referees and their wives. Affectionally known as Nana by her grandchildren, Nanci took great pleasure in being part of Stella and Jack’s lives, traveling to Minneapolis to spend weekends with them, and attending their sporting events.

Most of Nanci’s professional career was spent in the radiology department at Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell. Her second chapter was spent as a traveling Rad Tech, which was a serendipitous end to her long career, as it allowed her the opportunity to travel and explore new places.

Nanci loved to travel and was always up for a new adventure, with her family, her sisters and her friend Lois. She was an avid reader, devouring multiple mysteries each week. Another of her passions was quilting. Many members of the family are fortunate enough to have one of her quilts, including all her great nieces and nephews.

Nanci is survived by her two sons; Willie of St. Anthony, Minnesota and Nick of Mitchell; her beloved grandchildren, Stella and Jack Timmins of St. Anthony; her siblings and their spouses Pam and Grant Uecker of Mitchell, Leslie and Vincent Bruzzese of Staten Island, New York, Rick and Renee Brodeen of Las Vegas, Nevada, Peg and Mark Hartung of Corinth, Texas, Barb and Randy Lutmer of Louisville, Kentucky, Cathy Brodeen of Avon and Cyndy and Brook McBride of Snohomish, Washington; her sister and brother in laws Mary and Robert Wilson of Omaha, Nebraska and Terry and Judy Timmins of Mitchell; her aunt Carole Stevenson of Walterboro, South Carolina and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was proceeded in death by her husband Buck, her parents Clair and Jocelyn Brodeen, her brother Jack, great-nephew Peyton Sears and her aunt Lorraine Olson of Sun City, Arizona.
