Mildred A. Slama, age 92, of Yankton, died Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Avera Sr. James Care Center in Yankton.

Funeral services were Monday, March 25 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home. Burial was in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton.

Mildred A. Slama was born September 5, 1926 in Tyndall to John and Josephine (Pavlis) Stekly. She grew up on the farm near Tyndall and attended school there. She worked with her sister for a short time and then began caring for her nephew when his mother died shortly after he was born. She married Frank Slama Jr. on February 16, 1953 in Avon. Together they farmed as dairy farmers near Wagner, milking Brown Swiss cows. They retired in 1985 and moved to Yankton, where Mildred enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, crocheting and baking kolaches. She also enjoyed dancing, polkas, bowling with Frank and traveling together to Europe, Hawaii and Czechoslovakia to visit relatives.

Survivors include her two sons: David (Connie) Slama of Grant, Minnesota and Terry Slama of Derby, Kansas; two grandsons: Jason (Katie) Slama and Matthew Slama; great grandson, Caleb Slama; sister-in-law, Fran Andersh of Rogers, Arkansas; brother-in-law, Ben Slama of Avon and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Frank on May 24, 1994; two brothers: JohnSteklyandEmilSteklyand sister, Rose Kloucek.
