Marie L. Connell, age 90, of Yankton, died on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton.

Funeral services were Tuesday, June 25 at Redeeming Grace Bible Church in Yankton with Pastor Joe Mason officiating. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Yankton. Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton was in charge of arrangements.

Marie was born March 16, 1929 in Charles Mix County, to Jens and Charlotte (Strid) Johanneson. She graduated from Armour High School and then obtained her Teaching Certificate from Augustana University in Sioux Falls. Marie taught country school for one year in Charles Mix County. She then married Otis Connell on May 21, 1950 in Lake Andes. After their marriage, they farmed and raised livestock in the Armour and Lake Andes area. They sold the farm in the early 1980’s and moved to Menominee, Nebraska. After Otis passed away, Marie moved to Yankton. She loved gardening, canning, quilting, sewing and cooking. Marie was a hard worker who enjoyed serving others. She was so loving and always so accepting of others. Her faith guided her life. Marie loved the Lord and was an avid reader of the Bible. She loved her church family and being active in her faith. Marie treasured the time spent with family and she will be dearly missed.

Marie is survived by two children, Wally (Jacqueline) Connell of Yankton and Judy (Dennis) Losing of Marshall-town, IA; ten grandchildren: Pat (Rosana) Connell, Kelly (Tim) Reynolds, Allison Schmidt, Michael (Kristen) Connell, Charlette Connell, Chad (Rochelle) Losing, Scott (Tammy) Losing, Ryan (Mandy) Losing, Richard Kier Laping and Karen Mossefin; 16 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Otis Connell on November 16, 1990; five brothers: Bob, Oscar, Dennis, Jens and David Johanneson; and four sisters: Ruth Mapes, Joyce Jardee, Pauline Binegar and Delores Charlan.
