MARGARET HONKE
Mass of Christian Burial for Margaret A. Honke, age 102, of Butte, Nebraska, was held October 13 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Butte, NE. Interment was at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery.
Margaret passed away Sunday, October 7, 2018, at the Butte Healthcare Center. Condolences may be sent to the Margaret Honke family in care of Mrs. Mardell Schroeder, 39355 W. Hwy 46, Wagner, SD 57380.

Margaret Ann (Schmitz) Honke, daughter of Matthew and Paulina (Driefurst) Schmitz, was born January 6, 1916, at St. Bernard, Nebraska. She attended grade school in the Springview, Nebraska area, and graduated from Butte High School in 1934. She moved to Oregon, attended Williamette University in Salem and received her teaching certificate. On June 15, 1937, Margaret was united in marriage to Raymond Honke in Butte in a double-ring ceremony that also united Ray’s sister Theresa and Margaret’s brother Joe. The couple was blessed with seven children: Mardell, Sharon, Diane, Patricia, Raymond, Janet and a son Leo who died in infancy.
Ray and Margaret farmed for several years outside of Butte and then purchased the Dickerson and Raymer Hardware Store in Butte, operating it as Honke Hardware for 30 years. Margaret was very active in church, community and school affairs.
After Ray’s passing in 1985, she traveled extensively with her children, which included trips to Europe, cruise line trips, Hawaii, Texas, Florida and many other parts of the United States. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. Her devotion to her family and friends was endless. She embraced life to the fullest and with her smile and gracious manner she was loved by those who met her. On a lighter note, Margaret was well known for her love of fashion and high-heel shoes.
Margaret is survived by her five daughters, Mardell (Keith) Schroeder of Wagner, Sharon (George) Williams-Disharoon of Lincoln, Nebraska, Diane Sinclair of Columbus, Patricia Harshfield of Norfolk and Janet Honke of Orlando, Florida; one son, Raymond (Ellen) Honke of Spicewood, Texas; 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren;,onegreat-great-grandchild; one sister, Mary Fuhrer, and many other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; infant son, Leo; her parents; son-in-law, Gary Sinclair; grandson, Brad Sinclair; four brothers, Joe, Edward, Gerald and Harold; four sisters, Regina Zeitner, Rose Worman, Frances Whitley and Theola Fuhrer.
