Native American Church funeral services for Marcus Sheilds, 'Waha Canka Hoksila,' 50, of Rapid City, were held Saturday, December 27, 2025 at the White Swan Community Center in Lake Andes. Burial was in the Native American Church Cemetery, rural Wagner. Wake services were at the White Swan Community Center. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of arrangements.

Marcus Nathan Shields was born in Valentine, NE to Ethel Marie Iron Elk-Shields and Joseph Shields, Jr. He was born two months premature on December 26, 1974. He died Wednesday, December 17, 2025 in Rapid City.

Marcus was an outgoing, caring person and loved visiting family, relatives, and friends. Marcus was a Golden Gloves Champion, representing Fuller boxing. He was security for various churches in his place he called home in Rapid City. He was working on his GED, he loved to break horses, and helped anyone who needed things done.

Marcus was preceded in death by his grandfather Joseph Shields, Sr.; grandmother Susie Shields; father Joseph Shields, Jr; mother Ethel Iron Elk-Shields; half brothers: Shane Shields, Joseph Shields III; half sister Bernadine Shields; sisters: Stephanie Fish Shields, Melanie Jolene Shields; brothers: Kevin Lief-Shields, Jerry Morgan Shields; big brothers: Lawrence Dean Yankton and Harry Joseph Bad Hand.

Marcus leaves to mourn his daughter in Rapid City, JoAnne; Eric Yankton Sr & family; Royal Bad Hand Jr. & family; Grace Bad Hand & family; Lisa Bad Hand & family; Armando Iron Elk Sr. & family and Telly Shields.
