LEONARD KREEGER

Memorial services for Leonard L. Kreeger, 79, of Lake Andes were held Friday, April 26 at St. John Lutheran Church in Wagner, with military honors. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of arrangements.

Leonard L. Kreeger was born at Wagner on February 2, 1940, the son of Vernall and Martha (Scherer) Kreeger. He died April 21, 2019 at the Avera St. Benedict Health Center in Parkston.

Leonard attended school through the eighth grade at Highland District #32 and graduated from Ravinia High School in 1958. He served in the National Guard from 1961 to 1967.

Leonard married Doris Leistra on August 5, 1967 in Geddes. Together they farmed/ranched for 36 years on the homestead he grew up on. He continued to help his son Chad on the farm/ranch until he retired in 2016. Leonard was on the Highland Township Board for many years and was a member of the American Legion and St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Leonard will be remembered for his love for his cattle, horses, dogs, card playing, wood working and visiting. He especially loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared in Leonard’s life are his wife of 51 years, Doris of Lake Andes; four children and 13 grandchildren: Tamra (Clay) Burt of Sweet-water, TX and their children Allison, Austin and Ethan; Chad (Cathy) of Lake Andes and their children Caitlin, Miles and Emma; Heather (Timothy) Holsey of Sweetwater, TX and their children Megan, Timothy, Leo and Kyler; and Jeremy (Jasmine) of Wagner and their children Kendra, Cord and Wade; 11 great grandchildren; his sister Janice Leistra of Platte; and many relatives and friends.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Vernall and Martha; his in laws, Lyle and Helen Shortreed; four brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law.
