HERMAN PETERS
Funeral services for Herman W. Peters, 87, of Avon were August 26 at Zion Lutheran Church in Avon. Burial was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Avon with military honors. Peters Funeral Chapel of Avon was is in charge of arrangements.
Herman Wallace Peters was born May 30, 1937 in Parkston to Herman and Frieda (Fauth) Peters. He died August 21 in Tyndall. Herman attended country school until 8th grade. He received his GED while in the US Army after joining in 1961. He was discharged from the National Guard in 1965 and was a member of the American Legion. He also served as Charles Mix County Commissioner for 20 years.
Herman worked on the family farm with his brothers using his skills as a general mechanic to keep the equipment running. He had a talent for welding, producing one of the more unique mailbox supports in the form of a running stick man.
Herman married Jackie (Powers) Peters who continued to be his friend and part of the family even though they didn't stay married. After he retired from farming, he couldn't give up the big machinery. He worked with Grosz Sand and Gravel. He also kept on maintaining the roads for the Choteau Creek township until just a few years ago.
Herm enjoyed hunting when he got the opportunity and was an excellent bowler. Herm was an avid fisherman who would share his walleye catch or a story about the one that got away. One of Herman's most popular hobbies was his passion for making wine and bringing his concoctions to family events. He was well known for his deep singing voice. He had quite a repertoire of songs to draw from during karaoke, but the crowd favorites were Elvira and Let Me Be There. His distinctive bass also rang out in various churches as well as in the Bon Homme Community Easter Cantata.
Herman is survived by brother Kenneth (Marianne) Peters of Scotland; brotherin- law Doug Koupal of Dante; sister-in-law Karen Peters of Wagner; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Gary and Larry; sisters: Sharon Harrington and Janet Koupal; and brothersin- law: Walter Fuerniss and Gene Harrington.
