GAYLAND D. ASHES

Gayland Duane Ashes, 60, of Alabaster AL, passed away at his home Sunday, December 28, 2025.

He was born May 13, 1965, at Community Bailey Hospital, Chamberlain to Narcisse Roger 'Chuck' Ashes and Linda Jane Allen.

Gayland loved to spend time with his grandnieces and nephew, Kalise and Memphis Clevenger and to cook. His self-proclaimed specialties were “a mean” bean soup and killer BBQ.

In his younger years, he was an accomplished artist, winning awards for a pencil/ charcoal rendition of the End of the Trails and was commissioned to paint several murals throughout the YMCA in Bismarck, North Dakota.

Gayland’s mechanical skills and his training as a Field Radio Operator while in the Army Reserve served him well while working many years in the telecom and general construction fields.

He is survived by his Mother, Linda Allen (Larry Olson) of Pukwana; brother Dana Ashes (Sue Wilson) of Arkansas; sister Susan (Ashes) Clevenger of Pukwana; brother SeVern, and wife Mary of Vermillion; and sister Brandi Ryan, Grand Island, NB; and Special Friend Theresa Wills; Uncle Cephus Ashes of Lake Andes; and many more aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Grandfathers: Cephus Ashes Sr. and Darl Allen; and Grandmother Lavon (Bonnie) Allen, Flossie Zephier, and Aunt Beckie (Allen) Becker and Uncle Darl (Rich) Allen.

A celebration of life will be held at the Marty community center at a later date.
