Eugene Alvin Longe, 79, went to his heavenly home Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston. Services were Saturday, February 8 at First Lutheran Church in Lake Andes. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Lake Andes.
Eugene was born April 24, 1945 to Alvin and Verna Mae (Korth) Longe in Wayne, NE. He graduated from Winside High School and attended the University of Nebraska Omaha, graduating in 1978 with a degree in Construction Engineering. He was united in marriage to Beverly J. Maple on November 22, 1975 in Neligh, NE. He worked as an estimator and construction job superintendent most of his career. Eventually, he worked for Mueller Lumber in Mitchell, until retiring in 2017. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Lake Andes, VFW, American Legion, and Abate. He served on the Andes Central School Board and the Fish Days Committee and was a member of the dart league and card club. He loved spending time with family and treasured the times riding motorcycle with Bev and family and watching his children and grandchildren participate in activities, especially wrestling and football. He was also an avid Nebraska Cornhusker football fan and enjoyed reading and boating.
Grateful for having shared his life are his 5 children: Chad (special friend, Kris Tabbert) Longe of Orchard, NE; Dustin (Amber) Longe of Mitchell; Mikel (Kimberly) Longe of Bonesteel; William “BJ” (Kristine) Longe of Bridgewater; and Crissy Longe of Marion; 10 grandchildren: Lorenzo (Kaitlyn) Longe, Reno Longe, Jaiden Longe, Shaylee Longe, Braxton (Gabrielle) Longe, Shania Longe, Karson Longe, Paige Longe, Ethan Longe, and Kameron Longe; a great-granddaughter, Huntley Longe; two brothers: Don (Judy) Longe and Dave (Melodie) Longe; five sisters: Linda Mickel, Lori (Brian) Bebee, Lila (Virgil) Loewe, Leann (Tim) Schaeffer, and Laraine (Jim) Anderson; and a sister-in-law, Joan Maple.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beverly; a brother, Ted Longe; a sister-inlaw, Arlene Longe; a brother-inlaw, Merlyn Maple; and in-laws, Gerald and Norma Maple.
