Elwood ‘Woody’ Schuldt was born March 14, 1943, in Sioux City, IA, the only child to George and Lorraine (Davenport) Schuldt, and was loved by his stepmother, Dorothy Morford, very much. He attended school in Wagner, graduated in 1961, and went right into the lumber business, starting his first job in Watertown. In 1964, at the age of 21, Woody joined the South Dakota National Guard. He proudly served for 22 years as a Staff Sergeant, retiring in 1992.
Woody met the love of his life, Sandra ‘Sandy’ Hebner, and they married in Avon, August 23, 1968. They were thrilled to have shared 55 years together. They have three children: Chad (Kerry) Schuldt, Betsy (Gregg) Hintz, and Eric (Shauna) Schuldt, all of whom live in Aberdeen with their children: Brandon, Abby, Alyssa, Brooke, McKenzie, Jahkia and Kierstyn.
Woody enjoyed serving on many volunteer fire departments throughout the years in the various towns they lived in. He also volunteered as the ambulance driver in Platte, for many years. He served on the Board of Directors for the SD Lumberman’s Association. He enjoyed managing the lumberyard in Faulkton for several years and the McCleary Lumber Yard in Ipswich, for the next 30 years, and retired in 2020. Upon his retirement, he was employed by the Faulkton School as a part-time custodian, which he dearly loved, until his health worsened.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his boys, grandkids, and many friends, watching baseball, attending air shows, and NASCAR races. He and Sandy enjoyed going on various trips together. He dearly loved spending time with his family, grandkids, stepmother Dorothy, and friends.
Preceding Woody in death are his parents George and Lorraine Schuldt.
