ELWOOD DWYER

ELWOOD DWYER

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the sudden and tragic passing of Elwood Joseph Dwyer Jr, of Sioux Falls on October 28 2021, at the age of 52 years.

Elwood was born in Wagner on May 11, 1969 to Joann Zephier/Dwyer and Elwood Dwyer Sr. He was raised by his Grandmother, Grace Zephier, but went back and forth between Yankton and Marty and even attended Marty Indian School where he met numerous lifelong friends. After school he enrolled in Mitchell Votech for mechanics. He loved working on cars and was good at it. He then changed careers and worked at his father's painting business; Dwyer's Painting. When he moved to Sioux Falls he worked with his brother, Dan, at Syverson Tile & Stone but would eventually go back to painting.

Anyone who has ever met Elwood would tell you that he was always smiling and joking. His ability to make you laugh was second to none because his intentions were always pure and genuine. Even when he was setting you up to play a good prank on you which he loved to do. He was a good man with a kind heart down to his very core.

He enjoyed things such as fishing, cooking out and going for walks and all around being outside. But mostly he enjoyed just being around people he cared about which was pretty much any and everyone he knew.

He leaves behind three children: Tony J Zephier, 35, Jacqueline Nycole Zephier, 31, by way of ex-spouse, Loretta Zephier and many Grandchildren who loved and cherished him and whom he adored dearly. But, most notably he leaves behind the apple of his eye, his pride and joy: Elwood Joseph Dwyer III, 6. From the very first day he brought him home from the hospital he was "Baby Wood's" sole provider and caretaker, the two were absolutely inseparable.

He also leaves behind to mourn brothers: Tom, Dennis and Dan; sisters: Marsha, Patty, Roxann, Sonia and Tonia; and many nieces and nephews.

Waiting at Heaven's gate are his Grandmother Grace Zephier, Father, Elwood Joseph Dwyer Sr, Mother, Joann Zephier/Dwyer and Son, Corey James Zephier.

Elwood's wake service will be held in Wagner at the South Housing Gym at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 2nd but the gym doors will open a 5 pm for general public viewing. The funeral will be held in Marty, at 10:30 am on Wednesday, November 3 at St. Paul's Catholic Church and he will be buried in St. Paul's Catholic Cemetery immediately following.
