ELEANOR JOHANNSEN

Eleanor Emelia Johannsen (Buchholz) was born March 9, 1942, in Hendricks, MN to the parents of Julius and Elsie Buchholz. Eleanor lived on the family farm through high school, at which time she attended Mankato State University. She majored in Physical Education with a minor in English. After graduating from Mankato State, she taught for a year in Iowa, a year in Glenville, MN and two years at Austin Jr. High in Galveston, TX. She then moved to Wagner in January of 1969 and worked in the Wagner School System as their Librarian. At that time, she simultaneously took courses toward a degree in Library Science from the college in Springfield.

While in Wagner, Eleanor married Joel Johannsen in January 1970. Sadly, Joel was killed in an automobile accident in June 1977. Eleanor moved to Midwest City, OK in September of 1980. There she finished her degree in Library Science at Central State College as well as obtaining her master's degree in history in Edmund, OK. Her master's thesis was titled 'Southwest Indian Culture'.

In her spare time, Eleanor loved to read, visit with friends and knit. She made many scarfs for the homeless and scarfs and afghans for her nieces and nephews.

Eleanor passed away in Midwest City, OK February 8, 2023. She is survived by her two sons, Gene of Mountain View, CA and Jeff of Walnut City, CA, her sister Donna of Lake Andes and brother Bob of Frisco, TX.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joel, her parents Julius and Elsie, and brothers Harvey, Donald, Richard, Arlon and James.

Eleanor will be buried at a later date next to her husband Joel in Wagner.
