Douglas Kent Thin Elk was born May 27, 1963 at Indian Health Service in Wagner. He passed at his home in Arvada, CO on April 3, 2023.

Doug was one of five siblings, the “big brother” to: Vicky of White River, AZ, Madeline of Yankton, Mae of Mandan, ND, and Marcia of Avon. He was also a caring, loving uncle to his nieces and nephews.

Doug was known for his caring Cante’ (heart), always asking in phone calls about family, relatives, and everyone “back home”. Generosity was always a big part of Doug too, as he’d regularly send gifts, brightening the day.

Doug attended Lake Andes Elementary School, with his high school years at Marty Indian School graduating in May of 1981, after which going into the Army in New Jersey and Arizona. He would eventually settle down in the Denver area after meeting the love of his life, Becky.

Colorado became home to Doug although he always remembered where he grew up in South Dakota.

Doug had a strong faith in the Lord, thanking God for his deliverance from alcohol, enjoying and living life to the fullest, being clean and sober.

Our brother, friend, Uncle is tremendously missed, now and always, but his memory will always be in our hearts.
