DANIEL BUUS

A private Funeral Mass for Daniel Clarence Buus was held Friday, August 26 at St John Catholic Church in Wagner. Burial was in St John’s Catholic Cemetery. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of local arrangements.

Daniel Clarence Buus was born in rural Wagner to Ernest Clarence “Mike” and Mary Frances “Fritz” (Needham) Buus on September 14, 1951. Dan was the sixth of nine children and the first son. He was baptized at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Wagner. He grew up on a farm near Wagner and was educated at Wagner Public School. He attended the Pine Ridge Job Corps Vocational Program in Chadron, NE where he was recognized as Job Corpsman of the month for his work and leadership skills. Dan finished his vocational training and graduated at the Mitchell Area Vocational-Technical School, Mitchell.

During his early career, Dan lived in Gregory and was engaged in long-haul trucking. Later he moved to Chicago, IL where he worked as building caretaker, maintenance, and snow removal for several large high-rise businesses. Most recently Dan worked at Orchard Village, a nonprofit organization that provides services to individuals with developmental disabilities. He did maintenance work and provided transportation for the residents. He loved his work there and was very kind to the residents. He had a special heart for the disadvantaged. On weekends Dan volunteered at a homeless shelter where he assisted with meals and lodging for the homeless.

Dan was a big strong man with a loving heart, a hard worker who often had a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face. He finished his earthly job working right to the end, where he unexpectedly died at work on June 2, 2020.

Dan was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, sisters Joan Mead and Kay Buus, and brother Michael Buus.

He is survived by sisters: Ellen (Robert) Darling, Patricia Buus, Sally (LaVern) Rezac, and Madge (Ken) Buus-Frank; nephews and nieces: Mark Mead, Michelle Drager, Bill Rezac, Bridget Campbell, Samantha Link, Casey Buus, Tanya Reed, Amber Weller, Jesse Frank, Rachel Horsting, Ryan Frank; and many grand nephews and nieces.
