Gregory County and its good folks will always have a special place in my heart as will its bass fishing and deer hunting. While I was fishing in Canada last month, James Larson, a Gregory County rancher who lives north of Lucas, called. He was familiar with my column, and I was once his parent’s high school principal. A proposed energy project threatens his livelihood, and he wondered if I was aware of it. After talking with James, Betsy and I decided to drive out to the ranch, not only to see what land would be affected, but to get the story firsthand.

Read moreAvon’s 18U Softball Team competed in the Little Missouri Valley League Tournament on Tuesday, July 5 in Avon. In the first round #5 Avon took on #4 Tyndall. Avon jumped out to an early lead and held off Tyndall for an 8-3 victory. Emma Yost lead Avon with 2 homeruns and 4 RBI. Courtney Sees added 2 singles and Lydia Yost had a single. Lydia Yost pitched for Avon, striking out 5.

Read moreThis past week Emma Yost competed at the HOSA International Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tennessee. HOSA-Future Health Professionals is a global student-led organization, whose mission is to promote career opportunities in the health industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. While representing South Dakota, Emma competed in the physical therapy events. Emma wasn’t only representing South Dakota in competition, but she is also representing South Dakota as a state officer. She will be the treasurer for the state HOSA council this year, as she was elected by her HOSA peers at the state leadership conference. Congratulations Emma. Thank you for your work, and determination to represent Wagner and South Dakota.

Read moreOn Monday, June 27, the teeners traveled to Salem where Wagner would come away with two wins on the night. The 14U team were 4-3 victors in their game as they were led by the pitching of Brady Cournoyer. He pitched all five innings giving up the three runs, all of which were earned, on seven hits and three walks while striking out seven.
