Read moreThis last Saturday, the Avon Lady Pirates traveled to Alcester where they faced off against AC/DC in the Great Plains Classic. They came away with another win with a final score of 51-47.
Read moreThe Lady Raiders traveled to Chamberlain to take on the Cubs last Friday night in girls basketball action. With only two regular season games left on the schedule this was the last road game. Wagner would start out quick jumping out to an early 12-2 lead. The Raiders would use some defensive pressure and some great transition early to jump out to a 22-10 lead after the first quarter. The Cubs would get some momentum in the second quarter but it wouldn’t be enough fire power as the Raiders would out score them 22-17 and hold a 43-27 advantage. Wagner would also win the final two quarters out scoring the Cubs 36-26 and winning the game 79-53. Wagner would shoot 49% from the field 33-68 while the cubs would post the best shooting percentage against the Raiders all season with 42% going 13-31. The Cubs would live at the charity stripe converting 26-30 while the Raiders would just for 5-10. Wagner won the battle of the boards 29-21 by coming away with 17 offensive boards. 22 costly turnover would haunt the cubs throughout the game while Wagner would only commit 9. Shalayne Nagel would lead Wagner with 25 points, 8 boards, 7 assists and 4 steals. Ashlyn Koupal would add 20 points, 7 boards, and 2 steals. Eve Zephier would net 14 points, 3 boards, 7 assists, and 2 steals. Emma Yost would be the 4th Raider in double figures with 10 points, 6 boards, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Macy Koupal would chip in 5, dish out a game high 8 assists, a game high 5 steals, and grab 2 boards. Lydia Yost would round out the scoring for Wagner with 5 points, and grab 3 boards. “Offensively we got things rolling. We did a great job whether they played man or zone. We did an excellent job in transition. Defensively we got after them and pressured them into a bunch of mistakes. We did have trouble stopping their post, but we held the rest of their team to 17 points combined.”
