Read moreThe LIbrary with the help from a grant from the SD Humanities Council will be commemorating the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. A viewing of a video produced by the 9/11 Museum in New York city will be viewed along with a set of commemoration posters produced by the same Museum. It is open to the public and will be held on Sat., Sept 11th from 10:00 am-3:00 pm at the Lake Andes Community Center located at 207 Main Street. Because of the nature of the presentation it is suggested that parents/ guardians attend with children under the age of 12. The video showing will be starting at 10 and shown every hour after. It is the concern of the 9/11 Museum that people who were not even born before 9/11 may not have the memories of the event that those of us who lived through the day of the attacks. A presentation is also planned for students at Andes Central on Sept. 10th.

Read moreAmerican Legion Greer Post #11 held its monthly meeting on June 17, 2021 at the Post Home. Commander Clayton Rados called the members to attention. Chaplain Donald Kotab gave the invocation, which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion was recited by all members. Commander Rados thanked the cooks for the fine meal and then called the meeting to order. There were 27 members in attendance for the meeting with one guest, Nolan Dvorak, Richard Dvoraks’ grandson. Nolan was our choice for Boys State. Nolan gave an excellent presentation on his experiences at Boys State this past summer

South Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Greg Whitlock will serve as the keynote speaker. “Whether in peace or at war, the important role of our veterans cannot be denied. They are men and women from all walks of life that have one thing in common – a love for this great country,” said Secretary Whitlock. “No matter where or when veterans have served, they’ve always served with distinction and their service to this country is a bridge that was built on courage, dedication and patriotism.”
